JOB SUMMARY:
The Learning Experience Designer will provide support to ensure a standard of quality presentation of RISD’s Continuing Education (CE) online courses. Collaborate with instructors, staff, and program managers to film, produce and enhance educational media, video assets, and online teaching and learning deliverables across various modalities within an arts and design-focused curriculum. Develop and refine video production, instructional design and online learning methodologies to foster high-quality and innovative learning experiences for all CE students. They will be a superuser and optimize the use of learning management systems and platforms, such as Canvas, and other instructional technologies to support curricular goals. Lead training sessions and workshops on instructional tools, applying best practices and instructional design principles to improve learning outcomes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES:
Partner with CE instructors to film, produce and enhance quality, engaging video content, tutorials and demonstrations for online courses, ensuring alignment with RISD’s foundations-based approach to arts education.
Plan and deliver training sessions, workshops, and resources to enhance the video production, online instructional content and technical skills of CE instructors and staff. Offer tailored consultations to help instructors achieve their instructional technology goals.
Train instructors in the use of instructional tools and methodologies for effective content delivery across all teaching modalities (online, hybrid, and in-person).
Provide comprehensive support to all CE instructors in the use of instructional technologies such as Canvas, Panopto Video, Zoom, and other relevant platforms to ensure effective course presentation and delivery.
Serve as the subject-matter expert and superuser for the learning management system (Canvas).
Create and develop a range of instructional materials, including video tutorials, online training modules, Canvas templates, Canvas orientations, and text-based guides, for instructors, students, and staff.
Design and build Canvas course shells and templates that support online instruction, ensuring the structure is accessible, user-friendly, and conducive to learning.
Review all online course content prior to launch, offering feedback and meeting with instructors to ensure alignment with course objectives and best practices.
Produce, edit and/or oversee media vendors to deliver multimedia online learning assets for the CE unit.
Job Qualifications/Specifications
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
BA or BFA in Media Production, Video Production, Online Learning, Education, Educational Technology, Instruction, art and design, or related fields or equivalent combination of education and experience.
A minimum of three years of experience in online learning media, with demonstrated success in creating engaging, learner-centered content, preferably in the context of art and design.
Demonstrated experience in filming and video production, editing, post-production and delivering high-quality video content.
Proven ability to provide high-quality support for face-to-face, online, and hybrid learning environments, with specific experience serving as an advanced or superuser of an online leaning management system, preferably Canvas
Advanced proficiency in preparing media and web-based content, including the creation of multimedia materials for instructional use.
A demonstrated commitment to inclusive teaching and learning, with a focus on fostering success for a diverse student population in alignment with institutional values.
Strong ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, and prioritize effectively in a dynamic environment.
Solid understanding of the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and accessibility requirements in compliance with ADA standards.
PREFERRED:
Experience with instructional technologies such as Panopto, VoiceThread, and other third-party tools that integrate with Canvas.
Experience working in non-degree programs or continuing education environments, especially within highly competitive and fast-paced settings.
