**About the Role** Cadence is a modern open source microservice orchestration service used at Uber and by many other major companies. It's the backbone technology for more than 1000 services at Uber and powering billions of executions every month. You will be developing and maintaining an open source, cutting edge workflow orchestration engine powering many critical use cases in the industry. To get more information about cadence you can visit our website ( ). **What the Candidate Will Need / Bonus Points** ---- What the Candidate Will Do ---- 1. Contribute to an open source project used by many major companies 2. Write code to build new features to support more use cases 3. Develop detailed design documents 4. Improve onboarding, observability and operability experiences for Cadence ---- Basic Qualifications ---- 1. Experience in multiple programming languages, e.g. Go, Java or C+2. Software infrastructure knowledge. 3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to gather requirements and draft detailed design documents. 4. BS degree in Computer Science or a related engineering field. Masters/Ph.D. preferred. 5. 3+ years of relevant software engineering experience ---- Preferred Qualifications ---- 1. Experience with Cadence, Temporal, SWF or Durable Functions 2. Excellent coding skills with a high bar for quality and scalability 3. Understanding of distributed systems and a good understanding of its fundamentals 4. Familiarity with Kafka, OpenSearch, key-value stores (e.g. Cassandra), metrics collection systems like Prometheus 5. Experience with Thrift, gRPC, protobuf For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$167,000 per year - USD$185,500 per year. For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$167,000 per year - USD$185,500 per year. For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$167,000 per year - USD$185,500 per year. For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
