Job Description
- TEKsystems is seeking multiple Remote IP Core Network Engineers to provide core network monitoring and support for our Alaska-based ISP.*
- This will be a contract-to-hire engagement.*
- This resource will be 100% remote.*
Description: Purpose of Position: Provides expertise and support for the local area IP Core Network , including complex client-server environments. The role involves operational monitoring, support, analysis, and systems administration. Responsibilities include installing, configuring, and supporting the organization's core network, maintaining systems, applications, security, and network configurations. The engineer will troubleshoot, configure, and optimize data communications hardware and software, and coordinate network installation, testing, troubleshooting, upgrades, and maintenance.
Maintain the company's systems, wireless data/IP, and core network environment by providing operational support for IP, MPLS, Carrier Ethernet, and Data/IP network systems. Provide technical support for incident resolution related to wireless telecommunication technologies, including a growing 5G network. Incidents may range from total outages to intermittent issues affecting service quality.
Essential Duties: Project work related to platform growth and support
Change management and planning
Configuration and troubleshooting of Nokia, Cisco, Brocade, and Juniper IP/MPLS routers and switches
Independent and team support for multiple network platforms
Management of network resources and review of facilities utilization and performance
Creation and auditing of network and systems documentation
Inventory tracking, maintenance, and reporting to ensure lifecycle management
Daily operational checks and preventative maintenance
Generating network performance reports and identifying bottlenecks
Performing system software and hardware upgrades in collaboration with Engineering
Working with engineers and business groups to resolve customer issues and ensure SLA compliance
Tracking repair parts and materials
Installing, configuring, and supporting LAN, WAN, and internet systems
Monitoring network availability and performing maintenance as needed
Customer communication and Tier I/II support escalation
Monitoring site performance and supporting network modeling, analysis, and planning
Administering network security measures
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to handle moderate stress with excellent interpersonal skills
Experience managing large network platforms
Proficiency with Visio and understanding of WAN concepts
Experience with SNMP-based network management systems
Strong documentation and organizational skills
Experience with tools like Remedy, Metasolv, Statseeker, Cacti, Cisco Prime, and X-windows
Ongoing skill development to optimize network performance
Certifications: Industry-specific certifications are highly valued. Preferred certifications include:
Cisco CCNA, Nokia NRS-I, or equivalent
Cisco CCNP, Nokia NRS-II, or equivalent, SCTE DEP
Workplace Type: This is a fully remote position.
Pay and Benefits: The pay range is $50.00 - $65.00/hr. Benefits may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k), life insurance, disability insurance, HSA, transportation benefits, EAP, PTO, and more, subject to eligibility and plan specifics.
